When you accept that you are disabled; you have two basic choices. Deal with it from past conditioning or from the Wisdom of your Body.
Old habits may not be your friend & creating new conscious habits may propel you into a better state of mind. You have the ability to actually better your life with this tragedy.
I am talking about the quality of your life which may involve focusing beyond your problems. You have the power to control your focus and when dealing with charged issues like a disability; it is very important not to ignore beyond thought realities.
Too often in society we think of responsibility limited to the thoughts and issues of your problem. There is a lot of truth to being responsible in that way, but I want to explore what is responsibility?
To me “responsibility” deals with your ability to respond. I feel when you connect to the Wisdom of your Body; your response gets charged with quality as you utilize powerful inner resources to deal with your problem.
If you deal with those issues limited to your past conditioning you may practically do the right things and look very responsible, but ignore developing a quality of life. Your past conditioning may be incredible habits to deal with your struggle, but the Wisdom of the Body knows the quality that transcends thinking.
The world of logic and ethics, of spirituality and religion may be great sources to aid you on your path, but it is you that interprets what you think. The interpretation that comes from the depth of inner wisdom has qualities like confidence and self trust to guide you.
I honestly feel the quality experience you respond with is just as important as what you say or do. For instance having MS for 26 years makes how I deal with being legally blind as valuable as what I do to deal with it.
I would do anything to be normal again; to drive and read and see who I talk to. Now my focus is more in living a quality life, responding from my heart and appreciating inner depth than it is chasing cures to my illness. I passionately did that the first few years with MS and now searching for quality seems wiser.
My biggest hurdle in my quest for quality came from my own perspective. How I viewed my world, which is controllable by me, was significant in how I responded to my struggles. For instance I often fall (about twice a day) and my response to that fall can affect the quality of that entire day.
Take away the element of pain from the fall and your response defines how you deal with it. Control ego’s reaction so your thinking mind won’t punish you for falling in public. Go beyond the mind created fear of the future and you can find inner peace before you get up from a fall.
I don’t get up from falling until I find that inner peace. Now my question is; why do I have to fall before I search so hard?
