Stress is determined by how you interpret a situation and not on the situation itself. If a lion was in front of a person who works with animals in a circus, their experience would be different than an old lady. In golf handicaps are given to good golfers to make the competition equal, so why can’t a person with a disability change the way they perceive their handicaps? Obviously a person playing golf is not dealing with the challenge of blindness; but when I was told about handicaps in golf I looked at my challenge of having multiple sclerosis & being legally blind differently.
In a matter of weeks I was 80% blind and numb over large sections of my body and the doctors had no diagnosis. That happened over 26 years ago and soon after I got the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. That was not an easy thing to process and no matter what I thought, those symptoms were still there.
My brother told me about handicaps in golf and for a split second I stepped back and viewed what was happening differently. My symptoms stayed the same, but I perceived them with a perspective that eliminated being a victim. If that was the only thing I could control that was significant.
How you perceive your handicap may become one of your most significant treatments and that is totally in your control. Even if the symptoms stay the same, the quality of your life can be affected and that is not insignificant. Don't have the attitude that defines healing as 100% cured.
There is a healthy way to be sick and the quality of your life as you heal has significant influence on how your immune system deals with your challenge. The patient's role in healing deals with the quality of their life in the healing process. Our body responds to medical treatments better from a high quality of life.
This quality has little to do with income or living situations; the quality of life I refer to deals with how conscious you are in the moment without your own mind creating negative influences like fear and worry. If you can experience the moment and appreciate silence, the Wisdom of your Body is free to respond to medical treatments and healing is accelerated.
If your consciousness gives life to your thoughts and fears, you limit consciousness activating the Wisdom of the Body which limits your healing potential. Please leave me your comments.

Ruth,
I appreciated your comment; so I wanted to share a neat quote my brother told me when he learned about my handicaps. "In golf handicaps are given to good golfers to make the competition equal."
