The hardest part of accepting a disability is found in who does the accepting. When we focus our attention on thinking, which almost everyone does, we naturally trigger the “you” that is limited to our thinking mind. This is not your best tool to deal with a disability; you need the Wisdom of your Body. This incredible resource is deep within you& you need to consciously create habits to take you there. This next article is the 1st step in creating those habits. What you are asked to do is so simple; it is easy to ignore. Following these simple directions & realize the real power you have to connect to innerr wisdom.
When you face a challenge like a disability, you need to go beyond who you were taught to be and discover parts of you that you never knew. Learning to accept a disability is really a journey of self discovery. Suffering happens when you are attached to the person you were taught to be and your disability limits you from manifesting.
My disability doesn’t seem to want to change, so after decades of trying I became grateful for the reality I was forced to live in. I am legally blind with multiple sclerosis and before I got sick I strived to explore beyond the reality of “me”. My greatest problem in that exploration was leaving “me” behind. Now my illness forces me to explore that depth simply to survive.
I was attached to the reality I was taught to live in. My thoughts were more important than my life and deepest inner wisdom, but to consciously deal with this challenge I had to go beyond my conditioned self. Since my disability didn’t change; my focus and thinking had to. It was like my illness forced me to that depth and though it was a difficult journey; I am so grateful to have that connection.
As my illness progressed, going beyond “me” became a comfort I desired to have. Going beyond thinking, which was where I found comfort before was where I found disappointment and suffering as I dealt with being disabled. The silence beyond thinking was a comfortable place to rest my awareness and it was there I felt connected to the Wisdom of my Body.
Dealing with a chronic progressive disability is a difficult task and my thoughts didn’t always make it easy. Going beyond thinking freed me from stressful thoughts of my disabilities that only limited me. The more I felt comfortable beyond thinking, the easier it was to control my thinking mind.
Since you can not change anything you identify with, just like you can not wash the floor you are standing on; don’t identify with the way you think about your disability. If you focus on those thoughts;you will have a hard time changing and resting your awareness in the comfort beyond your thinking mind.
The secret of a healthy identity is your life and deepest wisdom is more important than anything you think. When you live that reality, which everyone has in their life; you find quality in the silence beyond your thoughts with the Wisdom of your Body.
You may think this is a difficult focus to have, but you already have it; you just ignore it
