Accepting an illness is like moving to a new city

When a person deals with accepting their illness, the first thing they have to consider is what part of them is doing the acceptance. Their illness is a major issue, but how it is accepted is your most important concern. I will use the analogy of moving to show you what is involved in accepting your situation. I recently moved from blocks from the beach in Santa Monica California to downtown Ann Arbor Michigan. How I adapted there is like how we need to accept a health challenge. This Blog allows you to step back and study what helps acceptance.

Ann Arbor is a beautiful city in a very conscious community, but the adjustment for where I was living was a shock to my system.  The only way I was able to accept this was on a spiritual level. I had personal reasons for moving because of family and health; but internally this was a real test.

I started writing my book “A Healthy way to be Sick” when I first got here and that started changing my perspective. Moving is like learning to adapt to a new environment. Being sick is the same.

How you deal with your environment if you move determines if you would be accepted or not. If you are able to let go of the past allows you to be in the moment. How you accept yourself really determines your life in the new city.

Now accepting an illness is like moving to a new city…that city is now your body. How you deal with your environment-your body-determines how you accept the illness. If you are able to let go of the past and be in the moment; you will accept your illness from a depth of inner wisdom. How you accept yourself determines the quality of life as you deal with your illness.

Basically who is sick determines the quality you have in how you accept your health challenge. Isn’t it the same as moving to a new city?

  • Ultimate Healing; Mind/body
When you look at an ultimate healing; you have to consider the mind of the patient as you focus on healing the body. If you heal the body without healing the mind there really isn’t a complete healing. In this article we look at how thinking habits can easily be changed so the way illness is interpreted supports the healing process. What we think in our mind has immediate effects on the experience of the body. Our interpretations have the ability to increase the stress we feel and stress has an influence on our immune system and how we respond to medical treatments. We have the power to control our interpretations and if that helps our medical treatments only 10%; it is a good idea to look at that part of our life seriously. The creations of our mind aren’t how we can cure our illnesses; but if the way we use our mind limits us in any way we have to correct that to heal at our full potential. We have the power to create new thinking habits so we interpret reality differently. If the way we think can influence our health only 10%, that increase is nothing to ignore. 10% of a million dollars is significant and a 10% in healing is significant also.
